I heard Ron Paul give a speech recently and he mentioned opting out and got enthusiastic cheers from the audience.

Is anyone ready to opt out?
Have they counted the cost as Jesus says?
"Or what king, going to make war against another king, sitteth not down first, and consulteth whether he be able with ten thousand to meet him that cometh against him with twenty thousand?" Luke 14:31
Ron was suggesting that if you opted out you would have to pay only10% income tax and be able to keep 90% of your wages for the rest of your life.
One of the people stated if 10% was good enough for God it should be good enough for the government.
The problem with that thinking is the one tenth that was given to the Levites "was the money" to support the government.God did not need your money or one tenth of what you own.
The people paid the Levites to be health, education and welfare. They were the public servants of a government where the people had a right to be ruled by God because they had not made any covenants or contracts with men who think they are gods or would like to rule over you like gods.
It was not the job of a Levite to sermonize on the Sabbath or Sunday but they were to handle the government administration of Israel, a free nation under God.
The Israelites had just opted out of Egypt's government. When they left they were going to have to learn take care of themselves.
They were going to have to provide for the needs of society with faith, hope and charity only.
I am not sure most Americans are ready to opt out under those conditions...
It took a few famines and plagues for the people while they were still in Egypt before they left just to start to get their act together enough so that they could even leave as one group and it took another forty years to get use to the idea and learn the lessons required to meet the challenges of a free society.
As the American economy slips away, with food shortages on the horizon, inflation heating up, it appears Americans and much of the rest of the world may have a few lessons headed their way as well..
Liberty is an art and everyone is not skilled at it.
In truth this perfect law of liberty was what John The Baptist and Jesus were teaching the people in the Gospel of the Kingdom .
They were in the same kind of system and state we have returned to from Babylon to Egypt.
Those who got the baptism of Christ instead of the Baptism of Herod were cast out of the systems of welfare offered by rulers like Nimrod and Herod.

On Pentecost the people were opting out. John and Jesus had prepared the way and the people were ready to follow that way with the help of the apostles and disciples of Christ.
Ga 5:1 "Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage."
They had been seeking the kingdom of God and His righteousness which was at hand.
